This week has been an almost perfect week of training and learning by the swimmers of TSC. Some days have been a little on the colder side but otherwise we have had some great training sessions. The three best things about the camp (training-wise) are the 50 meter pool, the number of practices and having no school between practices.
First, the ability to train twice a DAY in LC is a great benefit for us since we only get one a WEEK back in Teddington. It was a little rough at first but the swimmers have adjusted well and now race like we want them to in each practice. Second, having two practices a day allows us to not rush through anything and take our time on learning, then executing all the new drills - and EVERY one was new. We even had the time to have meetings before practices to explain the drills before we even attempted them. They all have them down now and will be bringing them back to share with the team. Third, the ability to eat at the dining hall in an all-you-can-eat atmosphere, then rest between practices has allowed us to have two great practices a day (except for Thursday where we had a great AM practice, then a great Beach and Ice Cream PM practice). They’re all tired, a little sunburned (despite gobs of sunscreen) but happy.
The training they’ve done, the things they learned (about swimming and themselves) and the bonds they’ve forged while here are nothing short of spectacular. Anyone thinking about coming next year should definitely talk to any of these swimmers, the coaches or the chaperones (who are more than indispensable!!) about the trip.
See you in a couple of days.
